Camry Idle Air Control Valve Cleaning
This is my Father’s 1999 Toyota Camry with the 3.0 liter V6 (1MZ-FE) engine. About every three years, the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve always gets clogged up causing the car to keep stalling when cold started unless the accelerator was depressed while the engine warms up.
It’s expensive to replace (someone quoted my dad $300) but I read that a shot of carburetor cleaner down the hole usually takes care of the problem.

Ray Herrera conducting Solenoid Valve Sizing & Selection training at ISA San Diego Section’s annual Expo and Technical Training Event on August 6, 2009, courtesy of The Valve Shop, a Division of Applied Valves and Controls, Inc. Websites: www.icexpo09.com, www.isasd.com. Video Ref. SDV 0411 SValves.
Solenoid Valves are the most commonly used valves in process automation. From basic water shutoff valves to severe service petrochemical refining applications. Unfortunately, they are too often misapplied and cause process inefficiencies, upsets, and shutdowns. This program is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the criteria used to properly size & select solenoid valves for both new and seasoned practitioners.
Instructor Ray Herrera is President of The Valve Shop, Applied Valves & Controls, Inc. He has extensive experience with sizing & selecting valves for process control and automation. Prior to founding The Valve Shop, Ray worked as an Inside Sales Engineer and Field Sales Engineer for major Manufacture Rep Companies of Control Valves, Instrumentation, and Process Control products.

Fisher V-Ball valve test — chopping a pencil in half
This short video was shot the day we had a guest speaker come to the college to present on Fisher FieldVue (digital) positioners. I wanted to demonstrate the hazards ociated with Ball ValvValves on a workbench by chopping a pencil in half with one as it closes.
The series of flashes you see in the first part of the video was me taking still-photos of the valve in five different positions, for use as illustrations in the instrumentation textbook I’m writing.

Oil Spill Control Valves
Experience has taught us that it is not uncommon for employees responsible for visually inspecting tanks after storms and other accident causing events, often time fail to carry out such duties and in fact, in some cases, actually force the conventional oil spill prevention valves to remain open. This “obviates” their perceived need for continued and regular visual inspections thus exposing the owner to expensive clean up costs and legal liability. The EcoStop valve avoids such “human error” and provides peace of mind. A must for oil companies, gas/fueling depots and electric power plants.
